My Story of Lack- a confession and an aha!
Beautiful Soul ,
The other day I was in class with one of my teachers and she was talking about harnessing energy and channeling it into action.
Very fun for me as I had just completed teaching the Journey Through Chakras Immersion and right away recognized this as moving from the third to fourth chakra to create my desires.
But then she said something else that stopped me in my tracks for a minute.
She started by telling a story from her experience that I resonated so deeply with that I felt she had somehow uncovered one of my secrets. I felt exposed. But I also felt seen.
This is the power of story.
Maybe you've heard that you need to move beyond your stories. That your version of the past can keep you stuck. Or perhaps you've experienced trauma and you feel out of control or overwhelmed when you are reminded of how that old story is still in your body.
Have you ever tried to leave your stories behind but found that they seem to follow you and color your experience of life?
I do think there is some wisdom in looking at how our past stories hold us back - but it isn't necessarily from removing the story. Instead our stories can be a wonderland of insight and support for creating new pathways and perspectives. They can help us to heal.
And in that healing, we can create new storylines where we become the hero instead of the victim. We can move beyond the old story into the next chapter. Rather than leaving it behind, we can experience it's resolution and live more fully into the evolution of life in the present.
The stories we tell ourselves often give us so much information about ourselves and what we need for healing.
So, back to my teacher's story. She told of having the experience in her life of feeling "hard done by" and like she always had to do everything herself. She felt tired and like there was no one who could help her to do what she needed to do.
I totally resonated with that. I also find myself feeling resentful sometimes when it seems I have to do it all or "no one ever offers to help me".
This happens mostly with my partner - and it's almost humorous how one of the things that bugs me most is how he is always trying to help me when I don't need help!
Anyway, the next thing my teacher said was what really rocked my world. She said that things had totally changed for her, that she shifted that feeling of "poor little me", when she owned that she actually likes being in control. That she likes being the boss.
Whoa!!
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing!!
I LOVE being the boss! I LOVE being in charge! Why do I let myself get all frustrated when I don't have help?
Well, it's because I need help sometimes. But as long as I perceive a "lack" in support and that "no one ever helps me", and I keep on bossing my way through, then that is what I am going to keep receiving!
The Universe is funny that way!
Where do you tell yourself stories that then become your self-fulfilling prophesies?
I'd love to hear 👂!
Much love,
Your Practical Mystic
